Financial Requirements
Â
To qualify for a Thailand Retirement Visa, applicants generally need to meet one of the following financial requirements:
• 800,000 THB deposited in a Thai bank account
OR
• Monthly income or pension of at least 65,000 THB
OR
• A combination of savings and income that meets Immigration requirements.
First Year vs Future Renewals
Many retirees use the 800,000 THB bank deposit method during their first year in Thailand.
After your first year, many applicants choose to use the income method instead. This usually requires showing 12 months of overseas transfers of at least 65,000 THB per month into a Thai bank account. Immigration may request bank statements and supporting evidence of these transfers.
This means many retirees deposit the required funds for their initial application, then have their pension or income transferred into their Thai bank account each month throughout the year. When it comes time to renew, they may be able to use these monthly transfers as evidence of income instead of maintaining the full 800,000 THB deposit. Requirements can vary depending on Immigration office and individual circumstances.
